The Valencia boys tennis team found itself in new territory going into spring break.

Two weeks after losing a close 10-8 match to West Ranch, and seeing its 75-straight Foothill League match winning streak come to an end, Valencia rebounded well on Thursday against Saugus with a 17-1 win at Valencia.

“I thought they looked pretty good,” said Valencia head coach Annie Kellogg of her team’s performance. “Chad didn’t drop a game. Sam and Nick didn’t drop a game. I thought they all played pretty well.”

All the familiar names were there at the top again for Valencia.

No. 1 singles player Chad LeDuff swept his sets (6-0, 6-0, 6-0) as did the No. 1 doubles team of Sam Rebele and Nick Joyce (6-0, 6-0, 6-0).

The No. 2 team of Ravi Jayanthi and Nick Davis also swept through their sets with no problem.

The Vikings will travel to Brentwood School on Monday and Saugus will host Hart on Tuesday.

Saugus’ lone set win came from Sean Graziano in a 6-4 singles victory.

Golden Valley 13, Canyon 5

Coming into the season, Grizzlies head coach Josh Stimac knew he wouldn’t have to worry too much about his doubles lineup.

Golden Valley returned all its doubles players from last year’s squad and they were key on Thursday as the Grizzlies overpowered Canyon 13-5.

The doubles teams won eight of nine sets. The No. 1 team of Vance Truong and Koa Chu took their sets 6-0, 6-1, 6-1.

The No. 2 team of William Oh and Danh Pham also swept its sets 6-2, 6-3, 6-0.

On the singles side for Golden Valley, junior Brandon Yu continued to dominate his competition, sweeping his sets 6-0, 6-0, 6-0.

“Our doubles played great,” Stimac said. “I thought the guys were a little rusty coming back from spring break but it wasn’t too bad. You just have to look at each point, set and match and ask, ‘What could I have done better?’”

Golden Valley will play its next match at Valencia and Canyon will host West Ranch. Both matches will be held at 3 p.m on Tuesday.
