SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — A new Field Poll shows that Californians are taking a dim view of a deeply divided Congress but have slightly warmer feelings toward their own representative.

The survey released Tuesday shows the approval rating of Congress among registered voters is 13 percent, the fifth lowest showing since 1992.

When asked their opinion of their own representative, 44 percent approved while 33 percent disapproved. Nearly one in four voters had no opinion.

A strong majority of Democrats, 57 percent, say they are likely to re-elect the incumbent this fall while just a third of Republicans said that. Nonpartisans were evenly divided, with 41 percent favoring re-election.

Republicans who identify with the tea party movement had the most negative views overall.

The Field Poll surveyed 1,000 registered voters by telephone from March 18 to April 5. The poll has a sampling error margin of 3.2 percentage points.
