Santa Clarita Valley sheriff's deputies help fight a brush fire behind the Valencia Autoplex shopping center near the corner of Valencia Boulevard and Cinema Drive on Sunday evening in Valencia.

A half-acre of “heavy brush” in the Santa Clara River wash near the corner of Valencia Boulevard and Cinema Drive prompted swift action from county firefighters, who knocked the fire down in less than 20 minutes, a spokesman for the Los Angeles County Fire Department said.

At 5:30 p.m. Sunday, firefighters were dispatched to an area of the wash on Valencia Boulevard and Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station deputies arrived on the scene to assist. The flames started behind the Big O Tires store in the Valencia Autoplex shopping center.

No injuries were reported and no structures were affected, said Fire Department Supervisor Ed Pickett.

Los Angeles County Sheriff's Deputy Josh Clark, who was on the scene, said the blaze was believed to have been started by a person in the wash. The person was taken into custody, Clark said, but the identity was unknown.
