At least some of the women believed to have stolen $20,000 in merchandise from a Valencia sunglasses store last month may have been arrested earlier this month in Camarillo, Santa Clarita Valley sheriff’s officials said Friday.

The Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station issued an appeal Thursday for the public’s assistance in identifying as many as eight women who entered Sunglass Hut on Town Center Drive on March 29 with large bags, grabbed merchandise off the store shelves and quickly left the location, fleeing to a vehicle parked nearby and driving away.

The merchandise stolen was valued at about $20,000.

At least some of those women may have been arrested April 9 during a similar “flash-mob-style” burglary at the Camarillo Premium Outlets center, SCV sheriff’s Deputy Josh Dubin said..

According to a Camarillo Police Department statement, six women ranging in age from 21 to 39, all from San Francisco, entered a Tory Burch store at the outlets mall, loaded up bags with merchandise and fled the store.

But in the Camarillo incident, a store clerk recognized one of the women from a previous burglary.

Store clerks identified the type of car the women used to flee onto the Ventura 101 Freeway, and deputies put out a broadcast resulting in the women’s arrests.

Stolen merchandise was found in the women’s minivan, rented in San Francisco, and a store clerk identified all six of the suspects.

“Detectives believe these suspects have been going up and down the coast committing similar types of burglaries throughout the state,” the Camarillo police statement said.

“Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station officials are trying to determine if the six suspects arrested in Ventura County are the same ones who stole from the Sunglass Hut in Valencia on March 29,” Dubin said.

The investigation was continuing Friday, he said.
