Trevor Bauer takes mound for Cleveland

Hart High graduate and Cleveland Indians pitcher Trevor Bauer was added to the roster to start the second game of a doubleheader against the San Diego Padres.

The third-year Major Leaguer allowed two runs, one earned, off four hits and stuck out a career-high eight batters in a losing effort. The Padres won 2-1. The Indians won the first game 2-0 to earn the split of the doubleheader.

Bauer began the season with the Triple-A Columbus Clippers and started one game with them before being called up on Wednesday.

Bauer is coming off a 2013 season in which he played sporadically for the Indians and posted a 5.29 ERA infour starts and 17 innings pitched.

For San Diego in the second game of the doubleheader, Robbie Erlin (1-0) gave up one run and four hits in six innings, and Chase Headley's single in the sixth off Bauer (0-1) drove in the go-ahead run.

Cleveland's Zach McAllister (1-0) allowed five hits in 7 2/3 innings and Jason Kipnis hit a two-run homer in the sixth off Eric Stults (0-2) as Cleveland won the opener.
