Some of the Santa Clarita Valley’s most dedicated volunteers were recognized for their service Saturday during an international-themed party at the Santa Clarita Valley Senior Center.

The event featured an international feast, with recipes inspired by dishes from a variety of different countries, along with several performances.

The rationale behind the international theme was simple, organizers said. It was because the dedicated volunteers who spend hours upon hours working at the center make a “world of difference” for the center and its clients.

“We could not do what we do, we could not accomplish our mission of promoting quality of life for seniors without our volunteers,” said Robin Clough, volunteer and activity coordinator at the Santa Clarita Valley Senior Center. “So we are so deeply indebted and grateful to them.”

Executive Director Rachelle Dardeau said that last year volunteers provided more than 49,000 hours of service to the center and its clients.

“And this year we’re heading to at least equal, if not exceed, that number of volunteer hours,” she said.
Dardeau said volunteers are vital to the center’s success.

“We are a volunteer-driven organization and we could not do it without the dedication and the commitment of our volunteers,” Dardeau said. “And this is but a small token, one of the events we have during the year to show our volunteers how much we appreciate what they do for us and for the seniors in the Santa Clarita Valley.”
