Toastmasters came to witness and take part in two contests, a local Table Topics Contest and the International Speech Contest.

These leaders travelled from Glendale, Chatsworth, Granada Hills and Santa Clarita. They arrived at the University Center of College of the Canyons, Saturday, March 8th.

Winners of this round for the International Speech Contest will compete two more times to have the chance to compete at the Toastmasters International Convention this August. This year’s Convention will be held in Kuala Lumpur.

“It was amazing the diverse subjects covered,” said longtime Toastmaster and professional public speaker, Terry Mayfield. “Each speaker was great in their own way. I would not have liked to be a judge, because it seemed so close.”

Neal Lightfeldt from Advanced Speakers of Los Angeles won first place in the International Speech competition.

Jordana Tiger also won representing Advanced Speakers of LA in Table Topics.

“The speakers ranged from very accomplished professionals to rank beginners, like me,” said first time competitor and member of Daybreak Santa Clarita Toastmasters, Kevin Walker. “But everyone had their game face on and gave it their best shot. That was encouraging to see.”

Toastmasters International is a non-profit educational organization that teaches public speaking and leadership skills through a worldwide network of meeting locations, including six clubs in the Santa Clarita area.
