A Sylmar man had more than just car trouble Monday afternoon when Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputies stopped to help him in the 31500 block of Castaic Road in Castaic.

The deputies were patrolling when they saw a disabled motorist stopped in the traffic lane with smoke billowing from beneath his car.

The deputies stopped to help the man, but quickly realized he appeared to be under the influence of a controlled substance.

Further investigation revealed that the man, Edward Wichmann, 45, of Sylmar, had a felony "no bail" warrant for his arrest for possession of a controlled substance, a felony $45,000 warrant for possession of a controlled substance, a felony $50,000 warrant for domestic battery, and an $80,000 warrant for sales of a controlled substance.

The deputies also found a "significant amount" of methamphetamine in the suspect's car, $2,000 in cash, and items consistent with sales of drugs.

Wichmann now faces a new open charge of possession of a controlled substance for sale, and a misdemeanor charge of under the influence of a controlled substance.

Wichmann was booked at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station and is being held without bail at the Inmate Reception Center in Los Angeles pending future court proceedings.
