Redmond O'Neal, 24, son of Farrah Fawcett and Ryan O'Neal looks over at his lawyer Bill Slattery in court at the Santa Clarita Courthouse Tuesday morning.

Redmond O'Neal's Malibu court date to face drug charges was postponed Wednesday due to his mounting legal problems, a district attorney spokeswoman said.

O'Neal, the son of actors Ryan O'Neal and Farrah Fawcett, was arrested in October 2008 for felony drug possession, felony possession of an opium pipe, misdemeanor possession of an opium pipe and unlawful use of tear gas, said Shiara Davila, Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office spokeswoman.

O'Neal was due in court for the October 2008 charges Wednesday, but his preliminary hearing was postponed because of a new set of drug charges filed Tuesday, Davila said. The district attorney has rescheduled a court date for the Malibu charges, Davila said.

O'Neal was charged with felony possession of heroin Tuesday in the wake of his weekend arrest for drug possession at Pitchess Detention Center. O'Neal was visiting an inmate at the jail when Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies asked to search his car in the jail parking lot Sunday. O'Neal voluntarily told deputies he was in possession of heroin, according to a D.A. statement.

O'Neal is due back in Santa Clarita Superior Court for the most recent drug charges on April 24. He is being held in lieu of $75,000 bail.
