Brad Berens, executive director of the SCV Senior Center and SCV Committee on Aging, encouraged community members to attend the meeting.
“The senior population is the fastest growing segment of society,” Berens said. “The tremendous growth we’re facing will provide immense challenges for the County’s services and support, and the Board of Supervisors needs every bit of input we can offer.”
The county’s Community & Senior Services department has implemented a Seamless Senior Services initiative.
The aim is to identify existing programs and resources and create a “no wrong door” — or seamless service model — for seniors.
The stakeholder meetings are part of that comprehensive planning. In recent months data-gathering meetings have been held around L.A. County.
Attendees are encouraged to provide comments on senior program integration and to offer suggestions for improving efficiency of services. Among those invited to the meeting are senior citizens, city representatives, caregivers, community leaders, senior advocacy groups, senior service providers and others interested in senior issues.
Currently, more than 50 percent of the County’s 40 departments provide services to seniors, including Public Health, Health Services, Public Library, District Attorney, Public Social Services, Consumer Affairs and Public Works.
