To The Editor:

Do you want City Council candidates who have serious conflicts of interest or who get money from dubious sources known to misrepresent opponents with hit mailers? Obviously not. You do want council members who work hard, are accessible, have strong experience, are competent, and most of all, have integrity.
Fortunately for voters, Diane Trautman and Maria Gutzeit have these qualifications, having successfully served the community for years and gained our trust and esteem.

Diane has served six years on the Planning Commission, showing an eye for both the big picture and nit-picking details, while knowledgeably analyzing a variety of development projects.

She is fair but not afraid to point out opportunities for improvement. Diane has devoted her life to children and their education, has extensive service in the PTA, and owns a tutoring business. She is quite active in senior issues and is co-founder of the SCV Save Our Seniors Committee.

Maria serves as Newhall Water District supervisor, where she has shown high levels of leadership and analysis of the very complicated water issues that constantly arise. She is able to think independently and to find the right solutions. Maria is very active in senior affairs (strategic planning) and bicycle issues (launched city's Non-Motorized Plan).

Both Diane and Maria are able to bring people together and work with all sides to get the best for our city.
They are by far the most experienced of the challengers and are extremely sensitive to the needs of small businesses (both are small business owners).

I can vouch for their strong environmental consciousness -- both worked on the Save Open Space Committee -- and their dedication to transportation issues.

So when you vote this April 8, mark the ballot for Diane Trautman and Maria Gutzeit -- your best choices for Santa Clarita City Council.
