Government is the problem

In response to Carole Lutness’ “Is government really the problem?” column (March 31): The colonists revolted against England over taxes that were lower than the burden we have been paying. Effective April 1, we saw another tax increase. With a tax burden more than 50 percent of each dollar we earn, it should be obvious that the welfare state doesn’t work.

Americans are the most generous people in the world when it comes to private giving. The Europeans don’t come close as they assume the government is taking care of everybody. Just watch private charity go away while our tax burden increases.

I think dismantling public schools would be a good thing. Compare private schools and home schooling to public education and you just might agree.

What’s wrong with the family taking care of their elders? Whoever recovered after living in a convalescent hospital?

Medicare may be a good deal right now for those eligible but as with other services, i.e. Social Security, but it can’t be sustained.

As for National Health Care, the Canadians keep coming, don’t they? They have to pay here because the wait at home may be fatal.

Yes. Government is the problem.
