Local sheriff’s deputies already investigating incidents of vandalism at Castaic school classrooms and, more recently, to cars parked on the street now have more incidents of vandalism to add to their list.

Vandals who loosened the lug nuts on a the wheels of one Castaic man’s truck caused the wheel to fall off while he was driving, according to a Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s deputy in his written report.

Sometime between 9 p.m. Sunday, March 16 and 4 a.m. Monday, March 17, thieves stole $2000 worth of stereo equipment from a gray 2008 Chevy Silverado truck parked in front of a home on Ruby Lane, east of Interstate 5 and north of Lake Hughes Road, the deputy reported.

“When the victim started to go to work, he felt the truck shaking and then the left front wheel fell off,” the deputy wrote.

There was no report of the truck driver being injured in the traffic mishap.

Investigators are now treating the crime as a burglary and vehicle tampering.

Deputies are still looking for the vandals who broke into a Castaic home last month, spray-painted its walls with racist and sexually-explicit slogans and spilled ketchup on its carpets, causing more than $2,000 in damage.

Sometime between 8 a.m. Feb. 24 and noon on March 4, vandals broke into a house on Mallorca Place, five blocks west of Castaic Middle School, which was hit by vandals three times since December.

Once inside the home, vandals smashed a glass table, a glass light fixture and spray-painted mirrors in the master bedroom with gold paint and the phrase “Nathaniel was here,” according to the responding deputy.

Investigators also reported that the master bathroom toilet had been “spray painted with an unknown picture.”

Deputies took photographs of sexually-explicit phrasing spray-painted inside a master bedroom closet and a racial slur spray-painted on a kitchen wall.

The incidents come on the heels of two other reported cases of vandalism done to cars parked at Castaic homes and the three incidents of vandalism at Castaic Union School District classrooms, deputies reported.

The vandals used a fire extinguisher to coat school floors with its powder in a classroom at Castaic Middle School, then squirted glue and dumped blue paint and boxes of cereal onto the floor on a February weekend.

The two other cases of vandalism involved one at Castaic Elementary School in December and one at Castaic Middle School in January.
