A male motorcyclist has died from “critical injuries” after a collision on Soledad Canyon Road Thursday evening in Canyon Country, according to a press release from the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

“At approximately 7:30 P.M., a motorcycle traveling eastbound on Soledad Canyon Road, at a high rate of speed, collided into the rear end of a vehicle traveling in the same direction,” the release states. “The motorcyclist was ejected from the vehicle where he sustained critical injuries.”

Speed was a factor in the collision, which was still being investigated at 10:40 p.m. Thursday, according to Sgt. Jeff Kern of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

“They’ve got the road shut down right now,” he said.

The fatal collision happened in the 17000 block of Soledad Canyon, “somewhere between Sierra (Highway) and Sand Canyon (Road),” Sgt. Kern said.

The injured man, whose name has not been released, was treated at the scene by Los Angeles County firefighters, according to the press release.

“The motorcyclist was transported to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead,” sheriff’s Sgt. Richard Cohen wrote in the press release.

Anyone witnessing the incident is asked to contact Detective Kelly of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station by calling 661-255-1121.
