After Laurie Keller's students at Pinecrest Valencia read the book "By the Great Horn Spoon," the class decided to do a puppet show based on the story.

They made the characters out of paper mâché. The students drew their own scenes from the book, then used them as backdrops for the puppets as they told the story.

The dialog was taken from the book and put into script form with the help of the teacher.

The students performed for the other classes, and on March 27 they performed for their parents.

"The class was taught a valuable lesson about learning," Keller said. "We can learn so many different ways.

"Experiencing stories through other media is a great way for students to get excited about reading."

Pinecrest Valencia is one of 10 Pinecrest schools.
