Two men from out of town were arrested in a Valencia parking lot Wednesday night just moments after they allegedly robbed a hobby store in Canyon Country, according to a sergeant at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

A 27-year-old unemployed man from Encino and a 32-year-old warehouse worker from Arleta were arrested on suspicion of robbery, a felony, said Sgt. Dan Stanley. Each man remains in custody at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s jail, each with bail set at $50,000.

Shortly after 8 p.m., two men robbed the Hobby People store on Ruether Avenue at Soledad Canyon Road, said a store manager who said he was prohibited from talking about the incident with reporters.

About 15 minutes later, local sheriff’s deputies tracked a black Kia SUV to a parking lot on the northwest corner of Bouquet Canyon Road and Newhall Ranch Road, according to one man who witnessed the arrests.

At 8:30 p.m., they arrested two men without incident near the Best Buy store.

“I heard the whole thing go down on the radio,” said freelance photographer Louie Gallardo, who had been monitoring broadcast reports about the robbery on the police scanner.

“I saw the deputies bringing out the first guy who was wearing a dark sweatshirt,” he told The Signal Thursday. “They put him in the black-and-white police car.

“A couple of minutes later, a guy comes out of Trader Joe’s and he was arrested,” Gallardo said.

Deputies reportedly found several radio controlled vehicles in the suspect’s car, he said.

Both men are scheduled to appear in San Fernando Superior Court Friday.
