TMC grabs a No. 2 seed in tourney

The Master’s College women’s basketball team learned on Wednesday that they will be a No. 2 seed in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics National Tournament.

The Mustangs earned the NAIA’s second at-large bid after finishing seventh in the national rankings with a 24-8 record.

They will face seventh-seeded Bethel University of the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference at 7:15 a.m. Pacific Time on March 19. Bethel earned the 13th at-large bid.

In all, the Golden State Athletic Conference got four teams into the tournament. Vanguard was the top at-large selection and is one of two teams entering the tournament with only one loss. The other is Freed-Hardeman of the American Midwest Conference who is the No. 1 seed in TMC’s section of the bracket.

GSAC Tournament champion Hope International got a fifth seed and will play fourth-seeded MidAmerica Nazarene, who earned an automatic bid by winning the Heart of America Athletic Conference championship.

Defending national champion Westmont earned a No. 4 seeding and will play fifth-seed Xavier who won the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference championship.

The tournament will be held at the Frankfort Convention Center in Frankfort, Ky. for the third straight year from March 19-25.

This is TMC’s ninth appearance in the national tournament ,where they have a 6-8 record all-time. Last year they lost 73-58 in the first round to Carroll.

They advanced to the national semifinals in 2006.
