“Go Jazz,” a dedicated jazz band comprised of Santa Clarita studio musicians, local band directors, and talented individuals, is performing at the West Ranch High School Performing Arts Theater on Friday.

The jazz band is the brainchild of a local resident artist, Bob Babko, known band director and member of the California Alliance for Jazz Hall of Fame.

The band has 20 musicians, including a vocalist, said Ron Rudzinski, principal at Newhall’s Golden Oak Adult School in the William S. Hart Union High School District.

Babko came to the Golden Oak principal a few years ago with the idea for an adult professional-level jazz band, Rudzinski said.

Over the past nearly three years, that idea has taken shape and has been entertaining crowds at the newest performing arts theater in the Hart district located at West Ranch High School.

The jazz band has also landed some other performances at venues outside of Santa Clarita, performing at the Café Cordial on Ventura Boulevard and Typhoon Restaurant at the Santa Monica Airport.

Go Jazz also plays other genres, covering groups and artists such as Stan Kenton, Doc Severinsen, Stevie Wonder, Blood Sweat and Tears, Chicago, and The Beatles, just to name a few.

“One of the neat things about living in Santa Clarita is that you don’t have to go far to take advantage of the arts,” Rudzinski said.

Friday’s performance begins at 7:30 p.m. Tickets range from $10 to $5 for students and seniors and are available at the door or by calling 661-259-0033 ext. 444.

West Ranch Performing Arts Theater is located at the high school, 26255 W. Valencia Blvd. in Stevenson Ranch.
