Two Santa Clarita Valley basketball teams will have a chance to play for a state championship.

Santa Clarita Christian School and Trinity Classical Academy were both placed in the CIF State Boys Division V Basketball Championship bracket on Sunday.

SCCS, coming off a loss in Saturday’s CIF-Southern Section Division VA championship game, earned a No. 6 seed and a home game on Wednesday in the first round against No. 11 seed Kern Valley of the CIF-Central Section.

In the same bracket, Trinity is a No. 8 seed which will host the No. 9 seed Capistrano Valley Christian, also of the Southern Section, on Wednesday.

On Saturday, Trinity won the CIF-SS Division VI championship over Desert Chapel.

This is the second straight appearance in the state Division V bracket for Trinity, which lost in the second round a year ago.

For SCCS, Wednesday’s game will be a program-first in a state tournament game.

If either Trinity or SCCS makes it to the Southern California Regional final on March 22, the game will take place at Colony High School in Ontario.

The winner of that game faces the Northern California champion on March 28 at Sleep Train Arena in Sacramento.

A total of six state tournament brackets in each gender which were announced on Sunday, including an Open Division bracket along with Divisions I through V.

One notable team left out of the state tournament picture is the Canyon High boys team. Despite advancing to the CIF-Southern Section Division IIAA semifinals this season, Canyon did not appear in the state Division II bracket.

Note: Due to CIF requirements for venue size, SCCS may not be able to use its on-campus gym to host Wednesday’s regional. The time and location of both the Trinity and SCCS games will be determined at a later time.
