Four people filming a scene with a fake gun outside a Newhall office building got a big surprise Monday night when SCV deputies drew real guns and detained them in connection with an alleged armed robbery, an official from the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station said.

Deputies responding to the call of a person pointing a gun at another person on Lyons Avenue near Peachland Avenue soon established that the gun was fake and the four were only shooting a video, according to Lt. Tom Bryski.

“They were detained at gunpoint and handcuffed until we could figure out what was going on,” Bryski said.

The four were quickly released and “counseled” on the dangers of acting out a scene on a public street without a permit.

“In order to do it legally they would need to get a permit,” Bryski said. “And the city would tell us ... so we’re not surprised.”
