The monumental streak for College of the Canyons women’s basketball will continue.

The COC Cougars earned a spot in the California Community College Athletic Association Southern California Regional playoff bracket on Monday, extending its run of consecutive postseason appearances to 21 years.

COC is the No. 13 seed in the 18-team bracket and will play at No. 4-seeded Pasadena on Friday in the quarterfinal round of the region.

The COC men’s basketball failed to make the playoffs following a 12-13 final record.

As for the women’s team, it was as close of a call as it’s been for COC in the 21-year stretch.

The Cougars finished the regular season with a 13-14 record, which marked the first time since 1993 the team finished with a losing record.

That was also the last time COC missed the playoffs.

This year, COC finished in a three-way tie for second place in the Western State Conference, North Division but missed out on an automatic playoff berth after losing a tiebreaker.

The Cougars were helped by a relatively high RPI that ranked 22nd in the state.

The RPI, a metric based on win-loss record and strength of schedule, is used to determine at-large playoff teams.

COC will have to win three games to advance to the four-team state championship bracket.

The Cougars haven’t won a playoff game since 2011.
