The Boys U12 Extra AYSO 677 Canyon Country team won the Section 10 Championships in Bakersfield during the Feb 8-9th weekend.

They played 5 games and went 5-0 including beating a Camarillo team - the only “Extra” team to ever beat them during their first tournament playing together last summer.

The team also played Santa Clarita’s very talented Valencia AYSO 678 team in the final.

During the league season, Valencia and Canyon Country tied twice with Valencia winning league, but it was the Canyon Country team who came out on top in the Championship.

From here, Canyon Country AYSO 677 plays in the State Championship with the final four teams left in California on March 15.

Game by game notes:

In the first game, Boys U12 Extra AYSO 677 Canyon Country team played an Agoura. Canyon came out flat and barely squeaked out a win winning 2-1 with a goal with only five minutes left.

In the second game, they soundly defeated Moorpark 7-1 with great defense and multiple players scoring.

In the third, they played a Sherman Oaks team to decide which team would win their flight. After a first half, where Sherman Oaks scored on two long kick breakaways, they were down 2:1 at the start of the second half. The coaches switched the formation and they turned the tides and pulled off a 3:2 win.

The victories put them in the semi-final game against a Camarillo team, which had won their league during the season. Using the formation change from the day before, they changed the lineup just before the game and the boys responded with a 3:1 win to get to the final.

In the final, they were up against a great Valencia AYSO 678 team which has proved itself a winner with two league first places in the last two years. The game was to decide who gets one of the four coveted spots to the state championship tournament and Canyon Country pulled off a hard fought win 2:0.
