WHAT IS IT?

This rather large insect has been spotted in Saugus twice in the past year. From a distance, some call it the Potato bug, and upon close inspection it looks like a beetle.

What is it?

Research indicates that it may be a either a Potato Bug; or a Jerusalem Cricket, a slow-moving, wingless species of a rather large cricket that is common in the southwestern United States. Reportedly, these crickets are not agricultural pests, do not sting and are not venomous, though they can give a good, and possibly painful, bite if handled.
