The Santa Clarita Valley had a remarkable basketball season this winter, with 10 total teams reaching the CIF-Southern Section postseason.

The All-CIF teams reflect such success.

Seven local players were honored as All-CIF-Southern Section selections, including four first-teamers.

Golden Valley senior combo guard Maverick Ahanmisi was named to the Division IIIA first team after averaging 20.1 points per game in leading the Grizzlies to their first-ever Foothill League title and the CIF-Southern Section Division IIIA semifinals. Ahanmisi was also named the Foothill League Player of the Year by the coaches.

His teammate, fellow senior guard Steven Thornton, was named to the second team in Division IIIA and averaged 19 points and almost five rebounds per game for the Grizzlies.

League runner-up Hart had two selections to the All-CIF teams. Senior guard Brad Wyche made the first team in Division IIIAA after averaging 13.9 points per game and leading the Indians to the CIF-SS Division IIIAA quarterfinals.

Senior forward Parker Dominguez made the second team after averaging 16.8 points and 12 rebounds per game.

The Santa Clarita Christian boys basketball reached the second round of the CIF-SS Division VIAA postseason thanks to junior swingman Davion Cotterell, who averaged 18.1 points and 6.1 rebounds per game. Cotterell was named to the second team in Division VIAA for his efforts.

Saugus senior guard Nicole Hicks was a first-team selection on the girls’ team in Division IIA. Hicks posted 19.6 points and 3.1 steals per game in breaking the school’s single-season scoring record and career steals record.

The Centurions won their second straight league title and reached the second round of the CIF-SS Division IIA playoffs. Hicks was also named Foothill League Player of the Year.
