Editor's note: The following is a letter Santa Clarita Mayor Frank Ferry sent to AT&T Executive Director Brian Fitzgerald on March 23, 2009:

Dear Mr. Fitzgerald:

I would like to take this opportunity to thank AT&T for making this year's Champions Classic tournament a reality here in Santa Clarita. I don't think we could have wished for a better event - from the fantastic weather, strong crowds and amazing field of players to the dynamic playoff finish.

The city of Santa Clarita has proudly served as host city to the tournament for nearly a decade and I can honestly say this year's event was bittersweet. I am thankful for all AT&T has done to invest in the tournament and the community, and I remain hopeful that a new title sponsor can be identified to step into the shoes AT&T wore so well.

As I have said before, it has been my pleasure watching this tournament grow and become an integral part of our city and the community since its inception. We certainly appreciate all of your efforts and years of service, and the dedication of AT&T's many staff members and volunteers who have made the tournament a success.

The city of Santa Clarita appreciates and values our relationship with AT&T and we look forward to working with you as a member of the business community, and hopefully as a supporter of the Champions Classic to some degree in years to come.

It is only with the generous support of partners like you that Santa Clarita is able to maintain its reputation as one of Southern California's premier event destinations. Thank you for all AT&T has done to support the Champions Classic and our community through the years.

Frank Ferry, Mayor
Santa Clarita, Calif.
