Santa Clarita Valley residents who enjoyed the holiday weekend’s mostly sunny skies and warm temperatures are in for more of the same during most of this week, with highs expected to hit 76 degrees by Friday.

Northerly winds are expected to kick up tonight through Thursday morning, driving temperatures down slightly and posing a chance of heightened fire danger, National Weather Service forecasters said.

But temperatures are due to climb to 74 by Thursday and higher Friday under breezy but sunny conditions.

Temperatures reached a high of 73 degrees Monday.

Residents enjoying President’s Day at Canine Country Dog Park near the Santa Clarita Aquatics Center were grateful for the warm weather but concerned about the lack of rain.

“It’s like summer in the middle of winter,” said Roger Lifsey, basking in the sunshine with Barnaby, a Jack Russell terrier.

“It’s awesome being able to come out and enjoy it,” said Scheila Upton, who was at the park with her dogs, Max and Buddy. “Although not having rain is scary.”

“I wish it would rain,” said Jesus Valenzuela. owner of deer Chihuahau names Peaches. “We need it, and we kind of miss it.”
