The driver of a van managed to crawled from his vehicle after it crashed Monday on winding San Francisquito Canyon Road, plunged down an embankment, rolled over and sparked a two-acre brush fire.

The driver, whose identity was not disclosed, survived the solo vehicle crash with no significant injuries reported, CHP Sgt. Kevin Pack said Monday.

Shortly after 10:30 a.m. Monday, CHP officers responded to reports of a single-vehicle crash on San Francisquito Canyon Road about three-quarters of a mile north of Stator Lane, Pack said.

“His van went off the east embankment,” Pack said. “It rolled over at least once and the party was able to get himself out.”

The crash sparked a brush fire and prompted swift action by firefighters with Angeles National Forest.

Firefighters with the Los Angeles County Fire Department responded to help the National Forest firefighting team, said a Fire Department spokesman.

With their combined efforts, the fire was knocked down within about 30 minutes, he said.
