Deputies from the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station have arrested a Canyon Country man thought to be behind a series of vehicle burglaries and several instances of tire slashing around Soledad Canyon Road since last November.

Deputies arrested 20-year-old Jonathan Szabo on felony vandalism charges on Sunday, according to a news release issued Thursday.

Between November and February, deputies noticed an increase in the number of vehicle burglaries and the number of vehicle tires being slashed in and around the 20400 block of Soledad Canyon Road.

In some incidents, the vehicles would be burglarized, whereas in other cases a vehicle’s tires would be slashed.

In one instance, someone slashed and damaged the soft top of a convertible.

Sheriff’s Station detectives reviewed crimes committed in the area and determined that approximately $7,000 in tire vandalism damage occurred since November, according to the Sheriff’s Station release.

The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office has filed two misdemeanor counts and 10 felony counts of vehicle burglary and vandalism against Szabo, according to the Sheriff’s Station.

Szabo is being held at the North County Correctional Facility in lieu of $180,000 bail, according to the Sheriff’s Station. He is scheduled to appear in court in San Fernando on March 10.
