A line at the door before opening, long lines for health screenings and happy sponsors and exhibitors characterized  the inaugural Golden Years Expo and Senior Health Fair.  Presented by Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital and produced by High Impact Event Resources at the Hyatt Regency Valencia on Saturday, February 8th, the event was dedicated to seniors, those planning for their senior years and senior care givers.

“After counting the Goody Bags we gave away and the number of attendees who participated in health screenings and promotions, we estimate over 1,800 attendees were at the free event,” said Gary Buterbaugh, the event producer.

40 exhibitors were on hand offering information, opportunities, products and services important to seniors and future seniors.  Seminars covering topics relating of VA and Medicare benefits, financial planning and health care for seniors were well attended and lines were long for health screenings provided by Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital, Facey Medical Group and Audiology Associates.

15 prizes contributed by exhibitors and sponsors, valued from $50 to $1,000, were awarded to attendees.  Jenell Watkins, of Newhall, won the Grand Prize of 400 California Super Lotto Plus Quick Pick Plays.  Attendees also took advantage of the freebies and special offers available from exhibitors.

“This event obviously struck a chord with the entire community,” said Buterbaugh, “it looks like we have a new annual event.  Thanks to our sponsors for making such an important event possible, and so successful.  We also thank our volunteers, including the Hart District’s ROP – Event Planning class and Boy Scout Ike Harms and his father, Ivan.”

In addition to Henry Mayo Newhall  Memorial  Hospital, sponsors included Facey Medical Group, Santa Clarita Valley YMCA, the Magazine of Santa Clarita, KHTS AM 1220, The Santa Clarita Gazette/Santa Clarita Living,  The Signal Multimedia, Twenty Five Score and SCV Hot Spot.
