A woman was detained at gunpoint in Valencia for driving a stolen car she bought off Craigslist — the first of two incidents Tuesday in which Santa Clarita Valley sheriff’s deputies drew their guns on suspects.

The woman was not arrested, but a man stopped at gunpoint in Canyon Country was taken into custody after allegedly driving his black GMC Yukon SUV up to the bike path at the intersection of Soledad Canyon Road and Camp Plenty Road and then challenging people on the bike path to a fight.

About 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, a sheriff’s deputy identified the car driven by the woman in Valencia as a vehicle stolen in Orange County, Deputy Josh Dubin said.

Deputies followed the driver from McBean Parkway and Newhall Ranch Road and converged on the car near the intersection of Rye Canyon Road and Newhall Ranch Road.

The driver, who was the sole occupant of the car, was detained at gunpoint.

“The deputies were told by the woman that she had purchased the car off an ad placed on Craigslist,” Dubin said.

Deputies contacted the registered owner of the car and were trying to find out who placed the ad to sell the car stolen in Anaheim.

The woman was not charged, was “very cooperative” with deputies and was not held, Dubin said. Her name was not released.

In the Canyon Country incident, which occurred about 3 p.m., the driver of the Yukon exited his car and was uncooperative with deputies, Lt. Tom Bryski said.

“Apparently, he was challenging people to fight on the bike path,” Bryski said. The man, whose name was not released, was arrested on suspicion of being drunk in public, Bryski said.
