When Phillip Seymour Hoffman was found dead in his New York apartment, with a needle in his arm and surrounded by drug packets, it showed that heroin does not discriminate who it afflicts, addicts or kills.

While officials have led a campaign to educate young people in Santa Clarita with “Heroin Kills’ symposiums and by launching programs in the local schools, these educational efforts are aimed at prevention.

But, the campaigns, by no means, reflect that growing heroin use is an epidemic among young people only.

Sunday's story in the Our Community section of The Signal explores what age range is struggling against drug abuse locally.

Our Community publishes stories and photos submitted by readers every week Sunday. The lead stories, however, like this week's story on local heroin use, is available in orint only.
