"What do I want to be when I grow up?"

The very youngest children want to follow their heroes as firemen, astronauts, movie stars, etc. But it's never too soon for a child or teen to start discovering his or her individual interests and how they can lead to realistic successful careers in the future.

That's the concept behind "Discovering Careers-2009," the Santa Clarita Valley's second annual hands-on career exploration program planned for 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 25, at College of the Canyons' main campus in Valencia.

Sponsored by the SCV School and Business Alliance, the Hart School District, College of the Canyons, Boston Scientific, the Chancellor's Office, California Community Colleges, and KHTS radio, the expo will feature interactive presentations and demonstrations by local businesses and service organizations.

Students from 5 to 20 years old will be encouraged to participate in hands-on activities that interest them, and explore the career fields that relate to those interests.

Discovering Careers-2009 is free of charge to all participants.
