California: Best drivers or lowest standards?

Somewhere I read, or perhaps heard, that California drivers are the best in the country.

That may or may not be true, but I recently had to renew my license and was required to take a written test.

Well, if the test is any indication of what the Department of Motor Vehicles considers good driving, then all I can say is: Take a train, take a plane, or take a boat, but try to avoid our roads.

The tests consists of 18 fairly simple questions. How many do you think you are allowed to miss and still get your license?

If you guessed six, you got it.

Six ... six out of 18. That’s right, you can miss one-third of the test questions and still get your license.

Send in six monkeys with pens and let them dab at the answers and some will pass. But do we want them driving anywhere near us?

Well, I got mine, and you’ll get yours, but do we want them to get theirs.
