D.A. buckles under pressure

Having experienced the unenviable task of putting three illegals in prison for robbing me at gunpoint, I must express my outrage at District Attorney Steve Cooley ("Mexican consulate forces deal in ID theft case," March 20).

D.A. Steve Cooley has bowed to pressure from the Mexican Consulate to reduce the charges of 54 illegals arrested for felony identity theft.

Here is a rare opportunity to bring the perpetrators of this terrible crime to justice. Cooley has agreed to let them off with 30 days of community service, which often means handing out volleyballs at our local teen center. Emboldened by their absence of punishment, they will almost certainly return to their lives of crime.

Illegals committing felonies are to be deported for our safety, not released back into society. I ask this newspaper to please print the letter from the Mexican Consulate to Steve Cooley as we as voting citizens have a right to know about the decisions that impact our lives well being and to what extent adulterer Villaraigosa was involved as he is a supporter of illegal behavior.

The District Attorney's office's refusal to discuss this issue speaks volumes and clearly indicates wrongdoing. If it were Cooley's identity being stolen, I wonder if he would be acting so cowardly.
