Valencia High graduate Max Homa earned a sponsor’s exemption and will golf in the PGA Tour’s Northern Trust Open, the tournament announced on Friday.

The event will be played at The Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades from February 12-16.

“I feel incredibly lucky to have the chance to compete against the PGA Tour’s best, especially in my home state at a tournament I grew up watching,” said Homa in a press release. “I want to thank both Northern Trust and the PGA Tour for such an amazing opportunity.”

This will mark Homa’s fourth career PGA Tour start.

The defending NCAA individual champion won a spot on the Tour through its qualifying tournament in December.

Homa played in last week’s Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines in San Diego.

He missed the cut.

Another sponsor’s exemptions went to Fred Couples.

In 2012, Hart High graduate Jason Gore earned an exemption thanks in part to a Twitter campaign.

This year’s field includes 2013 PGA Championship winner Jason Dufner, 2011 PGA Championship winner Keegan Bradley and 2009 Masters winner Angel Cabrera.

Phil Mickelson has announced that he won’t return this year to play in the tournament.
