UPDATED: Man struck and killed by Metrolink train

UPDATED 8:30 p.m.:
A male pedestrian standing on the railroad tracks was struck and killed by a Metrolink train at approximately 6:05 p.m. today, according to sheriff's officials.

Deputies are interviewing some of the 240 passengers aboard the five-car train, which remains stopped in an isolated area of Canyon Country about 100 feet north of the railroad overpass at Oak Springs Canyon Road, about half a mile north of Sand Canyon Road.

The man was struck on the south side of the overpass by the northbound train, headed toward Palmdale.

Homicide detectives arrived about 8:05 p.m. and the county coroner is en route.

It remains unclear if passengers will be moved off the train and taken by bus to the nearest Metrolink station. or when the train will be allowed to continue to the next station.

Metrolink officials arrived on the scene about 8:30 p.m.

Los Angeles County Fire and Sheriff's officials are investigating a report of a person struck by a Metrolink train near Oak Springs Canyon Road in Canyon Country.
