Barricades block the truck transition lanes from the South bound Interstate 5 Freeway to the Antelope Valley Freeway due a gravel spill further south on the 5 freeway snarling traffic on Tuesday morning. Signal photo by Dan Watson.

A gravel truck spilled its load of gravel Tuesday morning, prompting lane closures and a traffic backup in the southbound lanes of Interstate 5, a California Highway Patrol officer said.

Shortly after 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, a truck travelling southbound on the freeway dropped a load of gravel that spilled across three lanes near Highway 14, according to the CHP.

There were no traffic collisions and no injuries as a result of the spill, the CHP officer said.

The spilled gravel spread across three truck lanes of the interstate in front of the truck tunnels.

CHP officers diverted traffic around the cleanup efforts, restricting southbound traffic through Calgrove Boulevard.

By 11 a.m., all lanes were open to traffic, the CHP officer said.
