The Master’s College men’s basketball team lost in paint, as three Biola University post players scored in double-figures en route to an 80-66 Eagle win at The Master’s College Saturday Night.

“We had no answer for their big guys,” said TMC head coach Chuck Martin.

Eagles Andre Murillo, Conroy Lester and seven-feet tall Mike Kurtz combined to score Biola’s first ten points, with the trio of big men combining for 40 in the game.

TMC (13-6 overall, 1-3 GSAC) led 13-8 early however, before Biola (12-8, 2-2) went on a 13-0 run that spanned five minutes.

The Mustangs mostly settled for perimeter shots during the run, shooting 1-for-9 on 3-pointers in the half. Offense was uncharacteristically hard to come by for a Mustang team that averaged over 70 points per game before Saturday.

Dominique Lanier attacked the rim late in the half and scored seven of his game-high 26 points, yet the Mustangs trailed 35-27 at the break.

It looked like TMC was on to something with forward Korey Anderson’s post moves spurring a 5-0 scoring run to start the second half. But Anderson was limited by foul trouble the rest of the game and the offensive load fell almost completely on Lanier, who made 11-of-12 free throws in the game.

The Mustangs cut the lead to 47-43 at the 12:09 mark in the second half but never got any closer.

Biola’s strong post play opened things up on the outside for guard Pierre Zook, who shot 4-for-8 on 3-pointers, each seemingly coming when the Mustangs threatened. Zook finished Saturday night’s action with 16 points. Rounding out the scoring for the Eagles was Dakari Archer, who added 14 points.

TMC’s Anderson and Bernard Ireland finished with 10 points each for the Mustangs, who will be back in action next Tuesday in Santa Barbara against Westmont.
