Upgrade Newhall Memorial

Regarding the Letter to the Editor from Sheri Ford, "M.D. impressed by Newhall Memorial" (March 20): Thank God she had a positive experience in our local hospital. I have had the same good experience first-hand, with my wife. Most of the doctors (Ford) mentioned have also taken good care of my wife.

A visitor to our town knows zero about the expansion of Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital and all the uproar. Ford's last paragraph says how fortunate the community is to have a stellar health care facility. Remember she is a visitor and they took her to the nearest hospital. My point is that this city deserves a way better hospital than Newhall Memorial. I understand it's all about money and what insurance pays.

Last month my wife was taken by ambulance to Newhall Memorial. She is fighting for her life with breast cancer. We had the same experience that Dr. Ford had in the emergency room.

After being admitted it was all downhill. First thing, she needed a MRI. Of course the hospital has NO MRI machine. She had to be transported in a gurney across the street to Tower.

Thankfully the weather was not bad. Without getting into my wife's medical history, Newhall Memorial only has one pain management group. Only one. Amazing. I had the love of my life transported to UCLA and she is hanging in there.

People of Santa Clarita, we need a updated hospital. We need doctors that are cutting-edge in our community, like Dr. Barstis, Dr. Black, Dr. Wiss and Dr. Zimmerman.

Believe me, there are other doctors that are just as good that I don't know. It kills me to hear that Palmdale is opening a brand-new hospital and we are stuck with what we have, with OLD Newhall Memorial.

Wake up, our elected politicians. This is way more important than anything in this beautiful city.
