The Valencia High School Dance Team proudly shows off its championship banners and the five trophies won at the USA National Championships held at the Anaheim Convention Center.

The Valencia High School varsity dance team won three national titles, including the National Sweepstakes Award, during competition last weekend at the Anaheim Convention Center.

"This was truly a dream come true for our team," said team adviser Eve Itaya. "(The year) 2007 was the first time we had won a championship title, and it was in the entire-team event.

"To have won that same title last year and then repeat it again this year is beyond words. We are so excited and proud."

The sweepstakes award was presented for the team's large jazz number for the highest average score of any team in the competition.

In addition, senior Alexandra Skorniakoff placed fourth for her solo and coach Trevor Lynskey won a special judge's award for a perfect choreography score.

The team won national championship titles for the entire team performance in large jazz, for the medium performance and for the officers' performance.

It also took second place for its intermediate dance.

Valencia had never won titles for its smaller dances.

Teams are allowed to take their best five dances to the national championships.

At this year's event, there were more than 2,000 dancers in some 300 performances.

Competition lasted until the early morning hours Sunday.

The VHS national championship team will perform, along with other local high school teams and studios, at the annual Experience the Magic show April 24-25 at Valencia High School.

Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at the door.
