Seventy sixth-graders at Santa Clarita Elementary School tested their aeronautics skills Friday with rockets made out of 2-liter soda bottles.

The students had been studying aeronautics, propulsion, action and reaction since before the school December break, so Friday was the chance to test their new knowledge.

The sixth-graders pulled the release to send off their decorated creations filled with water and then charged with air from a compressor.

The highest flight topped off at about 60 feet, prompting cheers from the student body gathered on the play yard.
