SANTA CLARITA - A pizza man on a delivery in Canyon Country was punched in the face and had his wallet stolen in what law enforcement calls a strong-arm robbery — one of several reported recently in the Santa Clarita Valley.

The assault happened about 8:30 p.m. Monday in a neighborhood next to Fair Oaks Ranch Community School, Sheriff’s Department officials said.

“(The suspect) punched the victim in the face and stole his wallet,” said Lt. Tom Bryski of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station. The perpetrator made off with $15 and change.

A strong-arm robbery is one in which valuables are taken by force.

Food deliverers run a particular risk, Bryski said. “They’re vulnerable because they carry cash and they’re out at night.”

The crime is the latest in at least half a dozen strong-arm robberies reported recently in the Santa Clarita Valley. On Thursday a bearded man snatched $100 from the hands of a fast-food cashier in Canyon Country.

The lone suspect in Monday night’s case was described as a male in his 30s wearing a gray hoodie. Deputies had made no arrests by Tuesday afternoon, Bryski said.
