Street name change proposal is bad idea

Regarding the Dec. 18 front-page story “Online petition seeks to honor Walker, Rodas” regarding an “out of area” petition to rename Hercules Drive in memory of Paul Walker and Roger Rodas:

Only after, and not before, the city bestows this honor on each and every military veteran/first responder resident of Santa Clarita who gave his or her life in the service of our country should this even be mentioned.

A private memorial on private property in front of the nearby racing business owned by Rodas would be respectful.

Don’t start renaming city streets after traffic accident victims, no matter who they are. There are enough curbside crosses and candle memorials where fatal accidents have occurred.

How long are these all allowed to remain on public streets?

The message should be “Speed kills,” “Slow down and see our city”... or “Speed up and see Eternal Valley.”
