SANTA CLARITA - A Castaic resident was in custody Thursday on suspicion of arson after allegedly setting fire to a house on Quail Valley Road, a Sheriff’s Department arson investigator said.

The fire was reported around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at a residence in the 31200 block of Quail Valley Road in Castaic, according to a Los Angeles County Fire Department spokesman. It was knocked down within about 15 minutes.

Detective Edward Nordskog with the Sheriff’s Department Arson/Explosives Detail said the fire caused about $300,000 in damage to the two-story home.

Though he did not disclose the cause of the fire, Nordskog said it has been determined that the blaze was a result of arson.

Nordskog confirmed that one suspect, identified as Kristi Henderson, was in custody on suspicion of the crime.

Henderson used to own the house, the detective said, though he would not discuss the possible motive behind the blaze.

In booking documents from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, Henderson’s home address is listed as the same location as the fire.
