SANTA CLARITA - The Signal’s Jim Holt asked Santa Clarita Valley residents enjoying the recent sunny weather the “typical knee-jerk question” of the season: What is your New Year’s resolution? After eliminating all responses about weight loss or exercise, he received these responses:

“I’ll try and think of one that doesn’t involve debauchery.”
— Jake, IT consultant

“Find a way to work smarter, not harder.”
— Cindy, elementary school teacher

“I am going to simplify my life. Less stuff, less material stuff. I think there is a lot to be said for having less.”
— Bianca, profession unstated

“My only resolution is to write each enjoyable or memorable event that happens to me during the year on a slip of paper and keep them in a mason jar. Then read them all next New Year’s eve in the hopes that I can remember the good times and move on from any struggles before the next new year.”
— Kaylee, student

“Import poutine to California.”
— Greg, architect

Editor’s note: We’re sure the last response in favor of poutine, a common Canadian dish made with french fries and topped with a gravy-like sauce and cheese curds, has nothing to do with Jim being from Canada.
