Communications skills are essential to establishing and maintaining positive relationships in every area of life. That's the premise behind the fourth in a series of LifeForward workshops for local women sponsored by Zonta Club of Santa Clarita Valley.

The upcoming free workshop is scheduled for Saturday, April 4, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Valencia Library Community Room.

Panelists for the April 4 workshop include Ed Redd, a parent educator and certified anger management professional, and Judith Cassis, C.Ht., a clinical hypnotherapist and success coach.

Redd has been an instructor for the City of Santa Clarita's Pride in Parenting program for more than 10 years. He teaches parenting, anger management and cooperative divorce for College of the Canyon's Foster Care and Kinship program, the Sheriff's VIDA program and ACTION Family Counseling.

Having worked in the field of personal development since 1983, Cassis produces seminars and tele-seminars on the topic. She is the author of many articles as well as a book series and action guide titled "Success Made Simple." She co-founded the SCV Business Group, at the time one of the largest networking groups in the country.

Topics to be covered include how to listen-the foundation of healthy communication, ways to discover what's behind anger, why the Blame Game doesn't work, and ways to recognize harmful communication before it damages a relationship.

The LifeForward workshops are an outgrowth of Zonta's Breakthrough to Success workshops which drew accolades from women who took advantage of the sessions last year. The workshops have been drawing a growing audience to discuss such topics as balancing work and life commitments, setting goals, budgeting and money management, fitness and nutrition.

The final workshop on May 16 will deal with job search and career-building skills-a topic of particular interest in the current economy, according to DeAnne Joy, chair of the Zonta program.

The Theme for the 2009 series is LifeForward: Believe, Build, Be: Believe in your unlimited power and potential, Build the skills necessary to succeed, Be the powerful woman you are meant to be!

All workshops are free and will be held on Saturdays from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Valencia Library, 23743 W. Valencia Blvd.

Space is limited and child care is not available.

RSVP by calling (661) 252-9351.
