Final Score, a Newhall tradition

Comella’s creation is celebrating 30 years in the SCV -- still the place for ‘goood eats'

The BBQ Chicken salad ($8.85) is served with a side of crunchy French bread. The salad is made with lettuce, chicken breast, avocado, cucumber, tomato, almonds, tossed with ranch and a drizzle of homemade BBQ sauce.

The best chocolate malt in the Santa Clarita Valley is hands down at Final Score in Newhall.

I've eaten at Final Score, on and off since Final Score opened in 1979. I can honestly say I've never been disappointed.

Owner Joe Comella has been serving up sandwiches and pasta and salads for 30 years in the SCV. His walls are covered with photos of high school sports and other teams from throughout the SCV.

His food is honest, fresh and good.

Comella is passionate about using only prime or choice meat and fresh, nitrate-free cold cuts are brought in twice a week from Vernon. Bread is delivered fresh daily. Soups are made from scratch and hand-tossed pizza dough is dusted with cornmeal for a distinctly New York taste.

Small sandwiches ($6.75 to $7.75)have four ounces of meat, a medium ($7.75 to $8.50) includes six ounces and the large ($9.25 to $10.25) contains eight ounces.

Hamburgers are made from freshly ground chuck ($5.75) and the popular Philly cheese steak sandwich is made with filet mignon ($11.75).

Roast beef and turkey are baked slowly in the Final Score kitchen before being sliced up for sandwiches and salads.

On a recent visit to Final Score I found a new treat in addition to the Italian cold cuts sandwich and chocolate malt I normally order.

The BBQ chicken salad is a wonderful combination of lettuce, roasted diced chicken, avocado, tomatoes, cucumbers, ranch dressing and a drizzle of homemade BBQ sauce.

Final Score also serves homemade soups, melts, hot sandwiches, pastas and pizza. A family meal of pizza, pasta and house salad is $19.95.

If you've not experienced a Final Score sub sandwich, you've missed out. You will never look at a sub the same way again.

If it's been awhile and you've been lured away to newer, fancier eateries, stop by Final Score again. Try the chocolate malt. You won't regret it.
