Golden Valley High officials would not confirm the rumor that they have hired current Arleta High head coach Dan Kelley to lead the Grizzlies football program.

However, a source has told The Signal that Kelley will be the next Golden Valley head coach.
Golden Valley High Principal Sal Frias would not confirm that.

“We’re close to making an announcement, but we’re not quite ready to make an official announcement,” Frias said. “I’m not going to mention anything until it’s official. I have to follow protocol.”

Kelley led Arleta to a 9-2 record this past season and in three seasons has a 26-7 record and two East Valley League championships.

He would be replacing Robert Fisher, who resigned as Grizzlies head coach on Nov. 25.

Fisher was coming off a 2-8 record and in three seasons at the helm was 3-27.

Fisher resigned because he wanted to focus more time on his family and added that he wanted the program to go in a different direction.

He is currently the school’s co-Athletic Director.

Fisher also couldn’t comment on who the next head coach will be, but said there were 30 applicants for the job and nine candidates were interviewed.

“We’re very anxious to finalize things and announce who that coach is,” Fisher said.

If it is Kelley, he will be taking over a program that is 13-77 all time and 0-39 in the Foothill League.

Golden Valley’s next head coach will be its fifth in the program’s 10 seasons.
