The selfie and the handshake

President Obama has made it way too easy for me not to write about his behavior at Nelson Mandela’s memorial.

First, he shakes the hand of and chats with Raul Castro.

Not surprising, really. This is the same president that bows to a Japanese emperor and a Saudi king.

Then the “selfie” with the British prime minister and Denmark’s prime minister took the cake. There he is, clowning around with other leaders at what is supposed to be a solemn occasion.

From the pictures I saw it looks as if he is flirting with Helle Thorning-Schmidt, which appears to have peeved Michelle

Obama so she ends up sitting between them like a jilted cheer leader at a high school football game whose quarterback boyfriend is flirting with the “pretty” girl.

I have seen teenagers behave better. The president, David Cameron and Helle Thorning-Schmidt showed no decorum and acted like bored children at church.

At least Michelle Obama appeared to be paying attention. Of course, I think she was just mad at her husband’s antics. So much for acting presidential.

Some people think that they were just acting like you and me, down-to-earth Joes.

World leaders are not anything like you and me. They were put in positions of trust and leadership and are expected to be different than you and me. It comes with the territory.

I am sure we will see a further dip in the president’s approval ratings. Can we really take three more years of this guy?
