Valencia graduate Danny Worth remains with Detroit Tigers organization after being designated for assignment last week.

Worth was DFA'd to make room on the 40-man roster for former New York Yankees relief pitcher Joba Chamberlain, who the Tigers signed this week.

Worth was assigned to the Tigers' Triple-A affiliate Toledo, a move that made room on their 40-man roster.

Worth is not on the Tigers’ 40-man roster, but will have an opportunity to make the Major League team out of Spring Training camp.

Worth, 28, was drafted in the second round of the 2007 amateur draft out of Pepperdine University.

Since then, Worth has played 115 games at the Major League level. In those games, he has a .242 batting average with two home runs and 14 RBIs.

The 6-foot-1, 185 pound infielder played in 82 games for the Mud Hens team he’ll rejoin a season ago. He batted .223 with one home run and 22 RBIs in those contests,

In 2013, he played in three games for the Tigers, but didn’t reach base in two at-bats.
